Eight people have contracted E. coli poisoning and undercooked ground beef is the leading suspect.
According to a Vermont state health official, seven people sickened with E. coli are native to Vermont (Chittenden and Washington counties) and one was a visitor. None of those required hospitalization.
Each person with E. coli in this outbreak did eat at a restaurant or some establishment outside of home, but no more official connections have been made.
Vermont is encouraging people not to undercooked meat, wash all fruits and vegetables and avoiding raw milk.
