Two companies recall pistachio products linked to supplier’s Salmonella contamination

Two companies are recalling supplies of pistachios they’ve purchased from a wholesaler because they’ve tested positive for Salmonella.

According to releases from GloryBee Foods Inc., of Eugene, Ore., and from AustiNuts Wholesale Inc., of Manor, Texas, each receives pistachios for products they combine and re-sell from California Delights Inc.

GloryBee has recalled the following products:

Whole Raw Pistachio Kernels were sold to GloryBee Foods, Inc. in 25 lb. boxes from Specialty Commodities, Inc. Labels on these boxes consist of “Packed for Specialty Commodities, Los Angeles, CA. 90010.” The sides of the boxes are stamped in red with the lot number 32043.

GloryBee Foods, Inc. also re-packed these pistachios into 5 lb. bags (2.27 kg) labeled “Aunt Patty’s Whole Raw Pistachios,” lot number MG0017400, item number 16046., P/D 07/06/10, and UPC 0 30042 70040 8.

No illnesses have been linked to these products. They were distributed in Oregon and Washington state by direct delivery to retail stores and bakers.

AustiNuts has recalled the following products it received in July from California Delights:

~ Pistachio Kernels – Raw or Salted: Only lot numbers ending with “SE” with packing codes of P1860 through P2080 (LOT NUMBERS MUST END IN “SE”);

~ Deluxe Nut Mix, Salted: Only lot number P187013201AW through P207013201AW (LOT NUMBERS MUST FALL BETWEEN P1870 AND P2070); and

~ Gourmet Nut Mix, Salted: Only lot number P195014401AW through P201014401AW (LOT NUMBERS MUST FALL BETWEEN P1950 AND P2010).

Each product was distributed exclusively in Texas, but there remains a possibility AustiNuts products are available elsewhere.

Also, since each company recalling products received pistachios from the same supplier, it is likely more companies will enact recalls on their own products.

No illnesses have been linked to any AustiNuts products, but it is also unlikely any illnesses will until more people are aware of the contaminated pistachios.
