Quong Hop & Co., a San Francisco-based tofu maker, has been hit with a $90,000 fine for failing to maintain safe and sanitary conditions at its manufacturing facility.
According to The San Francisco Chronicle, the company failed to stop pests from entering its facility and did little to make sure its products were free of contamination.
No one has reported any illnesses after eating any Quong Hop tofu. The company’s products are sold under brand names Soy Deli, Soy Fresh and Raquel’s.
California’s Department of Public Health started noting safety and sanitation violations several years ago at Quon Hop’s facility.
Two years ago, the company was forced to recall a number of its products due to Listeria contamination.
