No salmonella found at Setton’s Long Island facility

New York health officials said over the weekend they found no traces of salmonella at the sister production facility of the company involved in the nationwide pistachio salmonella outbreak.

Inspectors flooded the Commack, N.Y., recently after pistachios manufactured by Setton International Foods were found to be contaminated with salmonella. Setton is the second largest pistachio producer in the U.S. with accounts in more than 30 nations.

At least 14 million pounds of pistachios have been recalled as a result of the salmonella discovery. This comes on the heels of an unrelated nationwide salmonella outbreak linked to peanuts.

No pistachio-related illnesses have been reported, though the discovery of the bacteria was recently made. It was initially discovered by Kraft Foods, one of Setton International’s Terra Bella, Calif., customers.
