More than 50,000 pounds of ground beef recalled due to E. coli contamination

A California company has been forced into a massive recall of ground beef that’s been contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

According to a release from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, this latest ground beef recall includes about 53,000 pounds of meat.

There are no known illnesses linked to any consumer eating these products. The beef was sold from Montclair Meat Co. Inc., and then sold to other processors and retailers for further processing.

The recall includes the following products:

* Various pound packages of “MONTCLAIR MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF”
* Various pound packages of “MONTCLAIR MEAT CO. ALL BEEF PATTIES”

Each package bears establishment number “Est. 6116″ inside the USDA mark of inspection. These ground beef products were produced between the dates of May 3, 2010, through May 13, 2010.

The E. coli contamination was noticed during routine testing by FSIS officials, but represents only the latest in an ever-growing number of recalled ground beef products.

Most often, these recalled products are thought to have E. coli bacteria.
