Merrick Pet Care Inc. has issued a recall on 86 cases of pet treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
Pets who ingest food items with Salmonella bacteria are at risk of developing severe side effects. Salmonella poisoning in pets can be deadly.
Pet owners are also at risk of developing Salmonella poisoning if they come into contact with the affected products.
According to a release from Merrick Pet Care, the recall includes the following product: 10oz “Beef Filet Squares for Dogs” pet treats (ITEM # 60016 LOT # 10084TL7 BEST BY MARCH 24, 2012). They are sold in 10-ounce plastic bags marked with the Lot number and Best By date on the top of the bag and on a sticker on the bottom.
Retail locations across the country received these affected products and Merrick says it has notified each of them of the recall.
No illnesses have been linked to these recalled pet treats.
