Merrick Pet Care has recalled its entire stock of 10-ounce “Beef Filet Squares” for Dogs and “Texas Hold’ems” pet treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
These pet treats pose a Salmonella risk to pets as well as humans who handle them. Consumers are urged to dispose of the treats or to return them at the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
We previously reported on this recall several weeks ago, but an update has been issued by Merrick Pet Care, an Amarillo, Texas, company, to include all lots of the product. Merrick claims no illnesses have been linked to these potentially-contaminated pet treats.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
The affected pet treats were shipped to distributors and retailers throughout the U.S. Retailers with these products who purchased them from the company have been notified of the recall, but it’s possible some of the recalled units were resold.
