The Food and Drug Administration said leafy greens, eggs and tuna are among the riskiest foods it regulates. This means they are most likely to lead to food poisoning.
In a list of the ten most likely to be contaminated foods, those and seven others make up nearly 40 percent of all food poisoning reports. The list was compiled from FDA reports by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
Sprouts, tomatoes and berries are also on the list. This summer has been peppered with reports of contaminated sprouts, a problem linked to a seed distributor which didn’t properly sanitize the pods.
Leafy greens were linked to 363 outbreaks and more than 13,000 illnesses, according to FDA reports.
Eggs were linked to 352 outbreaks and tuna, 268.
Cheese and ice cream also made it to this dubious list.
