Huntington Meat Packing expands recall to include nearly 5 million pounds of beef, veal

Huntington Meat Packing Inc. has expanded and corrected a recall it announced last month to include nearly 5 million more pounds of beef and veal products.

According to a release from the Dept. of Agriculture, the original recall was announced on Jan. 18. The recalled meats were manufactured under unsanitary conditions and the company never took steps to remedy problems at its facility in the past.

The Office of the Inspector General is currently conducting a criminal investigation of Huntington Meat Packing and the recall stems from that investigation.

The expanded recall includes products manufactured from Jan. 22, 2009, until Jan. 4, 2010:

* 10 lb. boxes of “IMPERIAL MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF PATTY”
* 10 lb. boxes of “El Rancho MEAT & PROVISION ALL BEEF PATTIES”
* 20 lb. boxes of “IMPERIAL MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF PATTY”
* 50 lb. boxes of “HUNTINGTON MEATS GROUND BEEF”
* 50 lb. boxes of ” HUNTINGTON MEAT PKG. INC. BEEF GROUND FOR FURTHER PROCESSING”
* 50 lb. boxes of “BEEF BURRITO FILLING MIX”
* 50 lb. boxes of “HUNTINGTON MEAT PKG. INC. DICED BEEF”
* 50 lb. boxes of “HUNTINGTON MEAT PKG. INC. SLICED BEEF”
* 10 lb. boxes of “Huntington Meat VEAL PATTY”
* 10 lb. boxes of “Imperial Meat VEAL PATTY”
* 10 lb. boxes of “El Rancho VEAL PATTY”
* 20 lb. boxes of “Huntington Meat VEAL PATTY”
* 20 lb. boxes of “Imperial Meat VEAL PATTY”
* 20 lb. boxes of “El Rancho VEAL PATTY”

The products feature an Establishment number of EST. 17967 and were shipeed to distribution centers, restaurants and hotels in California, but are likely to have been sold elsewhere.
