‘Good Morning America’ uncovers tainted restaurant lemon wedges

A ‘Good Morning America’ investigation revealed lemon wedges served with glasses of water and iced tea at family restaurants contain more than just zest.

The ABC-TV morning show tested lemon wedges at six family restaurants. At four of the restaurants, the wedges were contaminated with fecal matter, including one presenting an E. coli contamination.

GMA visited Applebee’s, TGI Friday’s and Chili’s. The show visited two of each restaurant.

Representatives of the show swabbed each lemon served to them at the restaurants and sent them to a lab at New York University.

All samples presented common bacteria found on fruit, but four had the harmful bacteria, including the one, potentially-fatal wedge.

Applebee’s and TGI Friday’s were the two restaurants were fecal matter was found on the lemons. Chili’s restaurants’ lemon wedges tested safely.
