Jessup, Maryland-based Congressional Seafood Company Inc has been stopped by the FDA from processing and distributing fish and seafood products.
Congressional has been cited for failing to follow the agency’s Seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point regulations in the handling of their products.
Violations included failure to document that fish were refrigerated at appropriate temperatures and failure to keep fish species separate to avoid cross-contamination.
In addition, Congressional failed to meet sanitation standards or keep records of compliance, and failed to verify that imported fish met FDA standards.
A permanent injunction allows FDA to shut down Congressional Seafood, recall its products, or take other corrective action in the event of future violations.
