Two lawsuits related to a 2010 Salmonella outbreak linked to an Ohio Mexican-style restaurant have recently seen progress.
According to Athens News, the outbreak of Salmonella poisoning linked to Casa Lopez restaurant sickened at least 56 people. One lawsuit was recently dismissed and likely settled out-of-court but another has just added new plaintiffs.
Eight people have joined a growing lawsuit against the restaurant seeking damages for injuries they suffered after eating at Casa Lopez in late-April or early-May 2010.
The lawsuit was first filed by Tyler Nay, a student at nearby Ohio University who ate at the restaurant with his mother during a campus event weekend. He claims he suffered “severe” symptoms of Salmonella poisoning. His mother has since joined the lawsuit along with six others who ate at the restaurant from April 29 to May 5 last year.
Salmonella poisoning is marked by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If unchecked in certain people, these symptoms can worsen and require hospitalization or lead to death.
Casa Lopez claims it is not responsible for the outbreak of Salmonella, saying those filing the lawsuits were partially or fully responsible for their illness.
