Hartz Mountain Corp. is recalling a second lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats due to a possible salmonella contamination in the bottles which hold the feline medicine.
Hartz is cooperating with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in this recall, an FDA release states. The company recalled a lot of similar product in November 2007 for similar reasons.
The product involved is 739 bottles of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats, lot code SZ 22771, UPC number 32700-97701. While normal testing conducted by Hartz and UFAC has not revealed the presence of Salmonella in any Hartz products, recent sampling conducted by the FDA did detect the presence of Salmonella.
No reports of sickened animals have come from the products recalled. If the lot numbers on the bottles are not visible, Hartz is recommending users discard the product immediately.
