Salmonella in Peanut Butter Claims Five, Sickens Hundreds

Lynchburg, Va.-based Peanut Corporation of America has issued a voluntary nationwide recall on their peanut butter, which has been tainted with salmonella.

2 people in Minnesota, 1 in Virginia, and 2 in Idaho have died and more than 400 people in 43 states have gotten sick from salmonella poisoning.

PCA manufactures peanut butter for bulk distribution to institutions, food service industries and private label food companies.

The peanut butter is sold under the brand name Parnell’s Pride and by the King Nut Co. as King Nut.

Kellogg Co. will be removing its Austin and Keebler branded peanut butter crackers due to the outbreak. PCA is one of Kellogg’s peanut paste suppliers.
