the microwavable hamburger patties recalled by Maramount Corp. in Brooklyn for listeria contamination have already been consumed by New Jersey school kids.

Per the article, on Christmas night, an official with a Brooklyn food processing plant phoned a Jersey City school official to say the factory was recalling 707 beef patties suspected of carrying a food-borne illness. But by that time, all but 35 of the suspect patties had been consumed by students at four schools that use microwave ovens to heat lunches, Susan Sollender, the district’s director of food services, said

So far no student has shown any signs of having Listeria, which is treated with antibiotics, Sollender said. But the incubation period is about three weeks, so it still could show up, Detroia added.

The patties were delivered on Dec. 19 to the School 30 Annex, School 23′s Duncan Avenue location, and School 23′s West Side Avenue location, and School 38, school officials said. The students at those schools range from pre-Kindergarten to grade 8, Sollender said.
