Whole Foods Market announced last Thursday that they have issued a voluntary recall of all fresh ground beef products due to a possible E. coli contamination. That recall was extended yesterday. The total number of states now included in the voluntary recall has grown, as they have announced that the recall now impacts more stores.
The states added to the voluntary recall include stores in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, and Utah. The recall includes all fresh ground beef products sold between June 2nd and August 6th.
The recall was necessary after it was realized that the beef, which came from Nebraska Beef Ltd, could have been contaminated with E. coli. Whole Foods, as well as other food stores, received their beef products from Coleman Natural Beef, who uses Nebraska Beef as a processor. Just this week, Nebraska Beef announced that they have issues a recall of 1.2 million pounds of beef due to E. coli.
