Satur Farms recalls Cilantro contaminated with Salmonella bacteria

Satur Farms has issued a recall on 88.5 pounds of its Satur Farms Cilantro because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

According to a release from the Cutchogue, N.Y., grower, the recall includes the Lot number 6361, which can ben found on a small white stick-on label on half-pound and one-pound bulk bags of the Cilantro.

Cilantro is an herb found in many types of food. It is leafy, green and resemble parsley.

Satur Farms says the affected Lot of its Cilantro was distributed in New York City and Long Island. It is possible the Cilantro was used elsewhere if it was sold after it was initially purchased from the farm.

No illnesses have been linked to the consumption of this Cilantro. The contamination was detected during routine sampling conducted by the Food and Drug Administration.

Satur Farms said it has conducted its own testing on the same samples, and on the seeds used to grow its Cilantro and those tests have returned negative.

Early symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Those with weakened immune systems, the very young and the elderly are most likely to suffer more severe symptoms of Salmonella poisoning which can result in hospitalization and death.
