Salmon recalled due to Listeria contamination

A Georgia company has issued a recall on its Nova Style Cold Smoked Salmon and Sable Fish Lox, Salmon Sushi Fillets, and Salmon Trim because it may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.

According to a release from King & Prince Seafood Corp., the recall involves numerous products the company distributes at the wholesale level. Some of the products are also available at the retail level. The company issued a recall after Food and Drug Administration samples of these products discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Any of these products distributed from wholesalers or food service brokerage firms on or after Oct. 4 are included in the recall. There have been no reports received by the Georgia company regarding any illnesses after eating the questionable fish.

According to the company’s release: “All Nova Style, pre-sliced, cold smoked products, sushi fillets, and salmon trims are packed in vacuum pouches and distributed frozen.”

Products included in the recall have the following Date Codes printed on cases and individual packaging of products in the recall: 1277W, 1278W, 1279W, 1280W, 1281W, 1283W, 1284W, 1285W, 1286W, 1287W, 1290W, 1291W, 1292W, 1293W, 1294W, 1297W, 1298W, 1299W, 1300W, 1303W, 1306W, 1311W, 1312W, 1313W, 1314W.

Listeria poisoning can be life-threatening and often requires hospitalization for treatment. Early signs of Listeria poisoning include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, severe headaches and joint pain.
