A Washington state creamery has issued a recall on some of its flavored and herb butter because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
Golden Glen Creamery, in Bow, Wash., said sampling conducted by Washington foods safety officials detected the presence of the life-threatening food pathogen. The company is recalling butters it produced on Nov. 2.
Specifically, the recall includes Golden Glen Creamery’s Herbes de Provence Butter and its NW Mushroom Trio Butter. A total of 89 packages of the butter are included in the recall. Twenty-one packages of the Herbes de Provence Butter were sold at Whole Foods Market in Redmond, Wash. Sixty-eight packages of NW Mushroom Trio Butter were sold at the same Whole Foods Market and at “various Metropolitan Market locations” around the state.
The company said the butters included in the recall were distributed between Nov. 7 and Nov. 28 and may be in some consumers’ refrigerators. Golden Glen Creamery offered this product description: “The product is sold in 4 oz. plastic round containers with tamper-evident seals. The labels read in part: “Herbes de Provence Butter”, or “Northwest Mushroom Trio Butter”, along with “GOLDEN GLEN CREAMERY”and“Natural handcrafted cheese produced by the Jensen ladies.” The top label on the products has a three-digit code 767.”
There have been no illnesses reported as a result of the contamination. Listeria poisoning poses serious risks to those infected with it. Pregnant women face a serious risk of miscarriage or stillbirth if they become infected.
