Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has issued a voluntary recall on one specific expiration date of its Organic Baby Spinach because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
According to a release from the El Segunda, Calif., company, the recall includes Organic Baby Spinach sold at Fresh & East Neighborhood Market stores in California, Arizona and Nevada. Affected products have an Enjoy By date of Aug 01. The produce was sold under the f&e label.
The company said it has not received any reports of illness linked to the consumption of its Organic Baby Spinach. The contamination was discovered through random sampling conducted by the Food and Drug Administration. FDA testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in one bag sampled.
The product included in the recall was sold in 5-ounce plastic bags. The number 20001162 is found in the Barcode.
Listeria bacteria can lead to more serious illness than other forms of food poisoning, though each can lead to serious illness, hospitalization or death.
Listeria poses a specific risk to pregnant women. Women who are carrying a child and become infected with Listeria bacteria risk losing their child through miscarriage or stillbirth.
Early symptoms of Listeria poisoning are fever, cramping and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
