Canadians are being warned not to eat Nature’s Reward Fresh Cilantro because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
According to The Canadian Press, the Fresh Cilantro included in this recall was sold to Ontario Walmart stores between Jan. 17 and 27. The recall is being initiated by Fresh Taste Produce Ltd., a Toronto importer.
The company imported the contaminated herb from the U.S, where a similar recall on contaminated Cilantro was announced recently. The affected product was sold in bunches held together with a Twist Tie featuring PLU 4889 and UPC 0 33383 80104 9. The ties have no brand name, date or Lot code.
Consumers unsure whether they have contaminated Cilantro are urged to call the Walmart store where it was purchased to see if it is included in this recall.
There have been no reports of illness among consumers in Canada or the U.S. due to tainted Cilantro.
People affected by Salmonella poisoning often experience upset stomachs, diarrhea, dizziness and some cases can turn severe. The very young, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems can experience the most severe symptoms.
