Blount Fine Foods is recalling units of All Natural New England Clam Chowder because it may contain undeclared shrimp.
People with a shrimp allergy who may eat this soup could suffer a severe allergic reaction or even die. Blount Fine Foods, Fall River, Mass., says it has retrieved all but 16 units, which are still in stores. The soup is sold in a 20 oz. container with Lot No. 0424086D with a Sell By date of 6/23/2008.
The soup was sold at Shaw’s Supermarkets in Massachusetts and Connecticut, Omni Foods in Weston, Mass., Donelan Market in Acton and Littleton, Mass., and The Cirelli Marketplace Store in Middleboro, Mass. The soup comes in a 20 oz. plastic cup with a film seal and plastic lid. The dark blue label reads: Blount Signature Soups All Natural New England Clam Chowder, Keep Refrigerated.
So far, no illnesses have been reported because of the shrimp making it into the batch of soup. The company says a breakdown in its oversight process is to blame and is asking consumers to recall the suspect product.
