Church Brothers LLC has issued a recall on about 560 bags of its clipped spinach because sampling on the product revealed the presence of Salmonella bacteria.
According to a press release from the company, no illnesses have been linked to the consumption of this spinach. Instead, random sampling conducted by the Dept. of Agriculture’s Microbiological Data Program noted the presence of the Salmonella bacteria. Church Brothers has decided to recall 560 bags it shipped to Super King Markets in the Los Angeles, Calif., area.
The affected spinach was processed on Oct. 6 and features a Best By date of “10/23/11″ and was sold in 2.5-pound bags. Each bag also has the Manufacturer Code of A279 47166.
The company said it is working with regulators and inspectors to determine the cause of the contamination and monitoring reports of adverse reactions.
Salmonella poisoning yields relatively mild symptoms in many cases, but some cases can be life-threatening, particularly to children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Early signs of Salmonella poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. Some symptoms may not develop for several days after eating contaminated food.
