Rochester Meat Linked to San Diego County Girl’s Illness, County Health Officials Contacting Restaurant Chains

Earlier this week, Rochester Meat Company of Minnesota recalled 188,000 pounds of e. coli contaminated beef products that were distributed to restaurants and food service institutions nationwide between October 30 and November 6. The recall happened after the illnesses of five Wisconsin residents and one California resident were linked to eating meat produced by Rochester Meat Company. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the California case is a 17-year-old girl from San Diego County.

As of January 16, the name (or names) of restaurants or other establishments which served the meat responsible for sickening these six people haven’t yet been publicly disclosed. But per the San Diego Union Tribune, county health officials are trying to contact owners of restaurant chains that may have received beef products contaminated with a potentially deadly strain of E. coli bacteria.

Fortunately, the 17-year-old San Diego County girl recovered without hospitalization. The status of the Wisconsin residents’ illnesses have yet to be publicized.
