Three more people have contracted E. coli poisoning that’s been linked to a Wisconsin butcher shop.
According to the Wasau Daily Herald, seven people have now contracted the form of food poisoning after eating products sold at Zillman Meat Market in Marathon County, Wisc. Reports of people getting sick after eating meats from this butcher shop were first noted before Christmas.
Local health officials expanded an advisory on the products distributed from that butcher shop, saying that any meats sold between Sept. 30 and Dec. 23 could contain E. coli bacteria.
Victims of this outbreak stretch over the Wisconsin border into Michigan. It is believed people from Wisconsin shared some of the smoked meats they purchased from Zillman Meat Market with people from Michigan.
Officials believe the three new cases involve people who purchased the contaminated products before employees at Zillman conducted a full-scale cleaning of equipment at the shop. Therefore, they are advising anyone who purchased products at Zillman during the time in the advisory should discard it immediately.
People who purchased products after the advisory date should be in the clear, according to the report.
